Tokyo is a vast city in Japan now. But it was called Edo (literally means ‘estuary’ or ‘river mouth’), and it was a remote village far away from the capital of that time, Kyoto. Then, at the beginning of the 17th century, the Samurai governor set up a Shogunate in Edo, built an Edo castle, and started large-scale urban development. As a result, Edo grew up to be the then-the-most-populated city in the world, and various Japanese cultures flourished, such as Ukiyo-e (Japanese woodblock prints). In this tour, we visit Tokyo’s major tourist spots and learn about its history and culture that lead to our day.
